Centura Health has implemented a mobile application to simplify care coordination and improve outcomes for emergency patients.

When it comes to emergency conditions such as STEMI or stroke, lost time translates to lost heart or brain tissue. Unfortunately, roadblocks to rapid treatment are often created by the disorganized system of outdated technologies that hospital teams rely on to communicate.

Centura Health has addressed this problem by implementing a new mobile app called Pulsara, which connects all members of the care team together, replacing all other communication technologies, and providing instant access to all case information. This allows care teams to spend less time tracking one another down, and therefore respond to the patient’s needs faster.

Local EMS teams also use Pulsara to quickly connect to Centura’s care teams and transmit patient stats, EKG readings, and ETA to the hospital, so that Centura staff can be better prepared when the patient arrives, further speeding up the care process. Doctors and nurses at Centura can even send instant messages to medics en route to the hospital, and since no data is stored on the devices, it is HIPAA-compliant and secure.

Pulsara also allows Centura teams to coordinate care for patients already admitted to the hospital (for example, if a patient admitted for pneumonia has a stroke while in the hospital) as well as for those being transferred to other facilities. “Centura is all about consistency and making sure that every single patient gets the best possible treatment,” said James Woodson, Emergency Physician and founder of Pulsara. “Pulsara will help them achieve that goal, every time.”
